Idle draw is what you pay for, not peak draw. A machine that pulls 180 W under load but 22 W idle costs far less per year than a 60 W box running flat out.

I measured everything with a cheap plug meter, then wrote the numbers down, because I forget them. Two disks spinning were roughly a tenth of the total.
